SAFE

Used to transport soldiers’ pay under the French Regime, this safe was made from iron bars produced at the Forges du Saint-Maurice, which was in operation between 1730 and 1883.

Blacksmiths transformed this iron into useful objects of all kinds, such as crow-bill grips, ice cleats, axes, nails, eyelets, mesh, pincers, etc.

This safe is in a remarkable state of preservation. It is exceptional. It is rare to find artefacts from this era that are nearly intact.
