CONTEMPLATION

This painting, titled “Contemplation” by its creator, depicts Msgr. Albert Tessier walking around in the heart of his Tavibois estate in Mauricie.

As for the artist, Denis LaPorte, he was a native of Joliette in the Lanaudière region of Quebec. He taught himself the techniques and appropriated a very personal style. He began his career in 1963. The talent and meditation-inspiring personal touch of this self-taught painter have attracted the attention of art galleries and connoisseurs even internationally.

Several of his works have been exhibited in Europe (France, Belgium, Germany, Italy).

He gave free rein to his imagination, sometimes touching on naïve art. He trusted his imagination to paint. His works convey palpable emotions. He knew how to gently play with light and shadow. We know that he was particularly fond of using his hands to apply colours to his canvases.

Denis LaPorte died in September 2020 at the age of 86.
